jayden

jayden was nate's best friend.  he came into nates life about 3 yrs ago and was a regular visitor at our place. he was the kind of kid who let you know he was there. he had a big personality, dreamed with out limits, he forced nate out of his shell, the 2 would bounce their energy off each other and match each other with challenges ...climb a tree or jump a cliff, visit the u.k and travel across canada together. they had the love of cadets, flying and riding.

i watched these two boys over the yrs. from planning their canada trip and observing the changes in their plans as they matured..to match more of a realistic ideal.  they hung out togther when ever they could.

the first wkend in september was beautiful.  jayden was over for the wknd.  fri night i chatted with jay before nate and him took off for the evening. he showed me his bike (again!) his jacket and gloves.  one of the last tnings i said to jay was commenting on how good he looked, he was tanned from the summer and his face was full of light.  he had his hair cut in a new style and he just looked good!  i watchted the boys get on their bikes from the loft window, wanting to snap a pic but didnt because i didnt want nate to see the flash and get upset...as they drove off that night i remember thinking "man, those two have the world in their hands" i was proud and thrilled for them...they wokred and saved for their bikes, nate had his scooter and jayden his dream motorcycle.  jay turned 16 in july and was FINALLY able to ride the bike he paid for...

they came home around 10 and i asked jayden how his night was and the last thing he ever said to me was "it was awesome! the best night of my life"

that night i went to bed and woke around 3 to go to the bathroom.  as i came out the biys were in nates room eating their evening meal....at 3 am! i told nate to clean it up and get to bed

nate and jayden had to work on sat so jay went home.

sunday morining i asked nate what the plan was...he said jay was heading to peggy's cove for the day and was coming back to our place around 8...

jay sent a text to nate at 5:04

jay texted his mom at 5:08

emergency response was called at 5:11

around 8:30 nate came to get me and chat about not hearing from jay...jay didnt open the last text nate went to him which was "drive safe"  i was starting to get concerned but didnt want to worry nate. its not like jay to not respond to texts

at 8:45 michelle, jaydens mom called

after i hung up all i could think of was "NOOOOOOO" "how do i tell nate that his best friend was killed"

i ran to get chris and we told nate

nothing prepares you for that kind of phone call. nothing

the next few days were a blur. getting through the days, the funeral and finding a new, new

nate has good days and bad.  he misses his friend. he misses having someone to call/text and share his life with...there are no words...

we will never forget you jayden.  you were such a character, i truly loved having you over and didn't mind the 45 min drive to pick you up. you came into nate's life when he needed a friend the most and you filled that role. you kept his secrets and were a true faithful friend.  i miss you. i miss you laugh and LOUD booming voice, how you teased me that i couldnt cook (truth!)

rest in peace my child

love,

nate's mom
