we are slowly getting into our school routine/flow
its been a week of hit and miss. guess and plan. change and pray. a few things we've done are...
i pulled out last yr's daily schedule for nate, the night before i pick the lessons for him, when we start school nate gets to pick what classes he wants to study first and delights in pulling it off when it's done
nate shared with me that he wants to know what exactly is involved in his reading, writing, math etc... so i have given him more structure and instruction on what i expect. e.g reading yesterday was 1 work sheet that i helped him with, finishing his cards and 1 book of his choice. i can work with that!
so fr every day he chooses to start the day with bible. or rather a devotion
this is how we do it....nate usually colors or plays while i read a story to him and we discuss it after. i found last yr that it works very well with him to give him something to do during reading, esp chapter books
i switch devotion up monthly, this month its a cute commandment booklet i picked up a few yrs ago. next month it's going to be on being a steward of finances
ahhhhhhhhhh math! math was nate's strongest subject last yr. i was surprised to discover that he is struggling with the basics of math (that he grasped and understood last yr) and it thriving and LOVES spelling, which is a new subject that i was not planning on doing till jan....anyways
math!!!! GRRRRRR or rather SKIP COUNTING oh my! he is not grasping the concept. sure he can memorise it but i dont want that. i want him to understand the how and why; things i was not taught.
so, on thurs i was floored that we were still trying to skip count. last yr this would have thrown me for a loop and landed me in the corner crying and questioning everything and my ability to educate at home, which would have lead me down this horrid path of self destruction
but this yr, not. i have taken this on as a learning curve for the both of us and a challenge to find a way to teach him....i've come up with a few activities
one was bingo dabbers! its fun and he loves it. last night after i put the kids to bed, i went in to clean up the playroom and found 5 DONE skip counting sheets that i did not ask him to do, he just went up and did them on his own! and he only got 2 wrong!
but the most exciting news!
we have a full on walker!
its so cute to look up and see her walking into the room, or past me, she just walks around. my dolly is a walker! sob sob sob
i can convinced beyond anything that god cares for my secret desires. mon i set out my fall decorations and on the table i put these 3 leaves. i put tea lights in the 2 and the center one i cloud not find anything that looked right. so i left it. wed i said to chris, i really want something to go in the plate...but i don't have anything! maybe i can slip out on fri night and get something from the $ store....
so wed night chris goes to church and brings me home a gift from my wonderful friend lo. in side was this.........
an adorable jar with fall decor that fits my plate perfect (there was a tea light that came with it but nate took it for him room bec "he needs the light')
seriously, in the middle of a rough week, god answered a silly, simple desire
