school!

i thought i'd do a quick school round up. its great for me to have records on line...this is what im doing with the girls.  we have a good groove going. school takes about 3 hrs. we do our group work together, then i spend an hr with each girl....

for this quarter (jan-march) we are studying poetry!  the girls are enjoying it more than i thought so ive decided to carry this until june.

each day we study a poem, read one, and write our own.  i spend a week on each style. the girls write their poem on a balloon and we add it to the wall

i found this to use on character until quinn can get me the course he's making for me :)
we talk, i ask questions and we discuss a character each day...i slip in some bible time as well

joey working on her poem
our read out loud for jan was! PIPPI!  the girls really enjoyed it. i did too!
a simple map book for geography and other cultures

im taking a break from science and focusing more on language arts for this quarter

Joey is in Gr 2 and is moving along in her math

reading comprehension
i use 2 programs with her for spelling
she's a great speller and i find all about spelling is a bit too easy for her, so we mix up some spelling work out which also provides a lot of printing practice
we started this writing course. and i really like it!
her book pile of quiet reading after im done with her 1 on 1
ellie is in gr 4 and is on schedule!  who would have thought that i'd not only be on schedule BUT a bit farther than i pegged to be!
ellie enjoys math the best and we use grammar as a time to practice keeping a good attitude.  i started giving her 3 sentences a day that she needs to break down into categories.  that seemed to help her grasp grammar a bit better and i actually enjoy working through the sentence with her
spelling
and i started a writing program with her. she doesnt like it at all. but too bad!  you gotta learn how to write my child! ha  we are working on personal narratives
she also reads a chapter book every other wk.  she's reading "Nim's Island" at the moment and enjoys it!  even with the older style english words
joey playing with her math blocks. ha

i redid the girls pin boards last wkend for a change and the girls decorated them
