joggins!

i found this note from ellie to joey the other day. love it.  joey put it on her desk. i love how close the girls are!

thursday morning we woke up and headed off to joggins for the day.  i told nate the day before that NONE of his friends will be there.  thurs is a super busy home school activity day and all his friends were in other classes. so i told him that i dont know anyone who is going BUT its a great opportunity to meet new people!  he was convinced he was going to have "the worst day of his life"  on the drive there i went over how his attitude is everything!  once we got there and he saw that he didnt know anyone, he did what he always does....and made NEW friends.  i was so happy that he chose to have a good attitude because as i told him, i was going to have a great day and he could have one too!
the kids enjoyed the museum. we spent about 20 mins before our tour and a good 2 hrs after playing and reading all the information

the girls followed the tracks into the cave
nate really got into the history of joggins and the discovery of fossils
even thought we dont believe in evolution and darwin's theory we were able to learn and discover new facts and we able to talk about why we believe in creation
looking at the plants in the floor. so fun
heading to the beach. our guide was AWESOME.  im telling you, the guide/teacher makes or breaks the field trip. this dude was awesome.  he guided us along the beach then spent another 30 mins pointing out and identifying all the rocks and fossils we brought to him. he was really good with the kids.  my girls were by far the youngest.  i think the closest girl to ellie's age was 9.  but they did SO well.  they stayed quiet and listened during the lesson/guide.  after the guide was done, we stayed on the beach for another 20  mins or so then hit up the museum for lunch and more play.  we met another family and had lunch with them and turns out nate is the same age as the boy and they played together for most of the day!
 the beach was beautiful!
the girls got into the rock and fossil collecting, the guide was impressed with how well they did and how they collected fossils too (and feathers)
huge fossil of plant and animal prints
 my little fossil finders
more fossils, coal and an abandoned  mine
 nate found some too
 my little ellie joy
i am grateful to home school.  i love that we do this. even on the hard days, i get to be with them.  thursday was enjoyable for all of us and im glad we get to do these things and make new friends
 my buddy
 just a cool pic
 picking snails off the rocks
the girls watched a docu on joggins. they watched the whole thing...a good 20 mins
looking at their findings under an old school microscope
 miner ellie
 joey's turn!
come on, who doesnt go to sleep with their back pack on?  she was already to go to nana and papa's
 ellie joy all tuckered out
it was a great day!

Mel, you have no idea how special it is for me to see your kids snuggling with the blankets I made for them. It blesses my heart every time I see it.
It looks like you had a great outing. Maybe next time we come visit we can check Joggins out together. My girls love playing with rocks and finding fun/interesting things outside.
