it all started with a phone call one day last week.i was asked to answer a 2 min survey on air quality. 2 mins you say? sure. i took the phone survey and guess what? it was under 2 mins. they took my name to enter it in to a draw. *sure, what ever*
so the phone rings again yesterday afternoon. while i was elbow deep in cookie dough. it was the same company from last week. she wanted to drop off my free bottle of tide laundry soap for answering the servery. sure. would i be home for around 6:30? sure. oh wait there is a 5 min questionnaire to fill out. ok. sure. *what ever*
so to make a long story short and less detailed as chris would like. i will tell the story in short point form.
i am with nate down stairs. chris answers the door at 6:10. takes the dude upstairs.
i come up with nate, there is a man (i was told a lady would be there) he has a small bottle of purex. not tide. he also has 3 large bags.
oh no. not a salesman.
yep, so we let him go on for about 1/2 hr. nate was getting restless. i went to get him ready for bed.
i came to rescue chris at 6:40ish by telling him he has an appointment for 7. which was the truth, chris had to be somewhere at 7.
chris asked the guy to pack up, we are not interested in his 2,700 vacuum or the 1,600 air purifier.
chris left to take a phone call. dude started making very rude, out of line comments to me. he then insulted me.
chris came up again and told him to leave. now.
i went down stairs to put nate to bed. (thinking he will just leave)
does he?no, instead i hear voiced raising in volume.
i put nate in the playpen. went upstairs.
i hear chris in a loud voice telling him to leave NOW. the phone rings. it's the salesman's boss. who then goes after chris, swearing, yelling, threatening.
i am standing there like hu??
i tell chris to hang up, enough is enough. i asked the guys his name, business cards, he refused. i told chris to get his license plate # and call the cops.
the guy FINALLY leaves.
then chris tells me that while i was down stairs with nate. the guy called his boss on our phone, who then started threatening chris, insulting us, and being way out of line.
i freaked and we ended up calling the cops and filing a complaint.
so yeah. that was our Friday night.
how did a free bottle of tide (purex sample) turn into this?

Oh Mel!!! That is aweful!! This happened to us too (well, not the having to call the cops part...) We got a call from a company about how they had some free hotel coupons for us and they wanted to give them to us. So, being the coupon queen, I agreed to have someone come over. Well the guy shows up with a BOX. That is one big coupon!! He had a young kid there "helping" him - or to be his scape goat, I don't know which. Anyhow, he goes into this LONG thing about this amazing vacuum...making me mad. He got mad at the helper kid for leaving the box at the door - called him names and stuff...then when we say we are not interested, he asks to use the phone to call his "boss" who then apparently wants to offer an even better deal for us, only us, and only this time! Ya...BULL!
I looked up the name of this company online and found many many similar complaints - right down to making sure the box was left at the door so that the home owner wouldn't suspect that it had anything to do with the demo...and then yelling at the helper for not bringing it in! And they always ask to use YOUR phone to call their boss. Sheesh...get a cell phone! This is year 2008 not 1908!! *sigh* - I am sorry you had to deal with that. Now, when I get calls about a free something that I didn't win or didnt want - I just say, "Sorry, we have 3 vacuums and we are not interested in buying another one. I know how this scam works." They hang up on me, but I don't care. Sad this is...I didn't get my free hotel coupon...scammers. I hope the laundry soap was good...
ha. at least i got some laundry soap out of it. i haven't used it yet.....
