school round up!

a few ppl have asked how school is going so i thought i'd up date.  this post thou is more for me and record keeping. ha.  we are a few weeks into the school year and things are going well.  some things ive changed up already some things ive added. this is a peek into our school day.  we do school at the kitchen table now, and nate has requested to do it by himself so i have a new system!

each week, im trying to aim for sundays, i go through nates lessons from the last week, i mark, check and see where he's at.  we keep all his school books in the above cart, beside the couch. the top drawer has all his books, the second drawer has all his markers and pens, and supplies. the bottom drawer has stuff that we use but don't need each day.  i keep his next semester work up stairs

so once a week i pull everything out, see below, and i use a clip board/work book and make a page for each day of the following week.  i write out his lessons, so he can check them off. nate loves lists!  nate now likes to do school on his own, he takes his books where ever he wants and works. when he has a question he comes and finds me.  for fun last week, i gave him my math teacher book to read the lesson to himself in place of me.  he learned how to do it and off he went. with out me. sob sob. he's really maturing!
for independent reading we use the world book series that i picked up at a yard sale last summer!
an idea of the lay out. we love these books!
for writing we use winning with writing. i hate it! nate loves it!
math is math u see! WE LOVE THIS PROGRAM!
science exploring creation. LOVE it! i read the text book with him, mostly because i want to learn it too!
then nate works in the work book
social studies is by rod and staff. i bought it used for 3.00!  surprisingly we LOVE this program!
nate reads the lesson and works in the book. ignore the upside down pic
cursive writing is a sample lesson i pulled off the computer, for free.  nate just started last week and is doing well.  he does 1 letter each day
reading comp is in a binder. i photo copy from my master book. cant remember the brand. he likes it and its easy for him to start his day with
spelling!  i bought soaring with spelling and we stopped using it. we HATE it.  it sucks. im going back to all about spelling, just have to order it. for now im just making up the spelling as we go.  he writes it on the white board then practices in his note book.
daily assignment sheet. he crosses it off as he goes and works independently
then once a week i take an hour and mark it.  at the end of the day, if he has a good attitude he gets his sticker and 30 mins of screen time!  he gets an hour a day, 30 mins in the morning and 30 after school, if he earned it!
gotta say im impressed with him over all.  we will be doing more reading once winter hits. i plan on cracking open the books and spend time reading.  nate is really maturing. sob sob

i am very glad he home educate!
