canaan!

spying out canaan...mel's style

num 13

so god said to moses "go send men to spy out cannan, which i am giving you (god tells them before they go, that's its a gift, they are getting it!) . send a leader from every tribe" god send out 12 leaders (12 means divine gov't btw) note-leaders! as in follow the leader...

spy= discover. gain sight of

mel's translation

moses, go get some of you finest, faithful, trustworthy leaders and go get them to peek at their new home, to get a vision with your eyes (gain sight) of this...i am going to give it to them.....go look!! have fun! enjoy it! it's yours!

then moses sent them out to spy (gain sight of), he sent them up on the mtn. UP on a mtn. where it is high. where you can see....everything........

then moses asked the men to find the answers to these questions

- what kind of land do they live it?

-is it fruitful? or barren and empty?

-how are the people who live there? are they big or strong?

-what is the city like? is there walls? are they protected?

-how is the soil? is it fertile or poor? -are there trees?

-enter the land and bring me back some fruit of the land which made me go hummm.....why did moses ask for food sample when he didn't know if there was any...didn't he just ask if the land was rich or barren? or did just assume that there must be good food because it's the land god is giving them, wouldn't god have food covered?

anyways off they go. walking around and checking things out, they saw the tribes, some giants and then they found these incredible grape clusters. so big they needed 2 guys to carry them, and they also brought some pomegranate (which symbolise fruitfulness) and figs (which has the highest plant nutritional value, i stopped counting at 16 and biblical means peace and prosperity) then after 40 days they walked home

ok. 40 days. that's a long time to be checking out your new home. they ate quite well, drank, slept under those trees. i am imagining that they had them selves a great holiday. imagine the conversations, the "this is where i am going to put my tent" or "yep, i am gonna snag me a wife and pop my tent right on over here, beside that grape bush" " i can not wait to play some soccer with ammiel jr right on over there"...

they came home. called everyone together and showed everyone the fruit! told stories of the milk and honey flow age...

then they said

but. the ppl are strong and big and the city is large and has the huge old wall surrounding it AND we saw those anak descendants....

when i read anak i thought, meh who are they? who cares! a split second later i thought maybe i should go find out who they are. SO glad i did! get this...they are descendant of the giants. they were warlike in appearance and struck terror in the Israelites

but get this!

they were destroyed later by....josh!

josh 11: 21-23...." joshua utterly destroyed them WITH their cities. NONE of the anakim were left in the land of the children of Israel.....joshua took the whole land, that god had promised them"

super and totally cool!!!

back to the story then caleb (josh was quiet) quieted the ppl and said "lets go get them! we can do this!" then other men said "no we can't! we are to weak they are to strong...blah, blah, blah....."

they spend the night crying and moaning and groaning and worrying and talking themselves stupid....they would rather go back to egypt and be a slave than go take the land.....bunch of whiny babies not that god had already you know, separated a SEA for them last week or anything....i guess he can't give them their land....that he said he would....*cough*idiots*cough*

and bec they were so whiny and complaining and pathetic i will never know what super cool plan god had to kick those giants out and give them the land! i think he would have used his foot and kicked down the wall, then made the giants use the rubbish to build the israelites a new home, better and bigger and then at the end, he would have smoked them by huge lighting bolts from the sky and ....ok....i am rambling

god would have taken care of it. he said he would

back to the story and my point (i do kinda have one)

self talk it makes you or breaks you

they left the city with dreams of the future somewhere along the walk home (i think), someone got a negative thought and spoke it and like awild fire it spread over everyone they saw the giants as scary....maybe god wanted to do something with them (before he smoked them)

they saw the huge walls to keep them out. i see walls of protection. for THEM

those 12 leaders let neg thinking and their perception talk them into exaggerating their weakness (remember they were like grasshoppers! bawahhhh)

josh and caleb did not. they kept god as center, they looked at the giants and went "mehhh god will take care of them, no biggie!"

the way they behaved was determined by what they allowed their minds to think

whats' your self talk like?

example

i emailed sally-sue but she didn't email me back

reaction- oh no she must hate me! i bet she can't stand me! i bet she is out with lucyloo right now, talking about how much they don't like me AND i bet she doesn't even like my baking

or

meah she's just busy. i will call her later

i am just starting to work on mine and that would prob why i saw this story different today so i am going to try and replace positive thoughts with the negative. starting right now! yeah! it's only 3! i can do so many more things today with a cranky boy than if it was 5.....lalalala

I love you and your stories, Mel. You have such a pure heart. I needed to hear this today - I have been worried about Sally-Sue lol :) I must think positive - because as we all know, negativity spreads like wildfire. You are amazing!! XOXO

Mel:
You have a way of writing a story like noone else, making it so understandable and pulling out what God wants us to know. Good going .
