science!

we started up our last semester of mad science.  there are a few new faces at the class, which is awesome. i love meeting new ppl and chatting with other home educators!

ellie came along too, she mostly ate/played with trucks and ran laps around the room
 lap # 1003
no one minds that shes running around. i think that's a perk with home educating kids of all ages. the older kids learn to tune out distractions to study

we are studying magnets. so fun! i love that it also tied in with our study on earth (magnetic fields) this week. i love that i can sign nate up for these classes and i love that they supply everything!  i don't have to hunt to random!
playing with one of fun magnets and iron shavings

i am SO stoked! the day FINALLY came haha i have been wanting to move ante from the kid readers, which are awesome and served a great purpose...onto more of a real/living books instead.  this week we started the long way.  its a story about swedish immigrants who came over to new york back in the years 1900's.  we cant get through a page with out at least 10 questions.  so i am taking the book slowly, explaining to nate why things were done differently during this time period.  anyways!  i love our reading time, together, on the couch under a blanket.  memories!
now that i am having 2 girls one of them will love little house on the prairie and anne of green gables!  i have never read the little house series! and i look forward to that!  anne of green gables is a bit more mature reading so that will be interesting!

yeah for real books!

Reading when the kids get older is fun! We've read Charlottes's Web, some of Stuart Little and the first 3 books of Little House (Little house in Big Woods, Little hous in the Prairie, On the Banks of Plumb Creek). Katie lost interest after that. There's about a 5 yr gap to the next book (Silver Lake something rather) and Laura is starting to think about boys and marriage so we stopped there. Nate would probably love Farmer Boy (also by Laura Wilder).
Anyway, happy reading and enjoy spring!! I'm planning to be outside in the garden tomorrow. It's been raining all week so I'm ready to go outside again to get some work done.
Have a great week!!
