fri i took the kids to kouchibouquac, which is a natural park about an hr up north. ive never been there before so i was interested in going. the home school trip was designed for jr and high school students. but i was able to sweat talk us into going because i know the lady who organized it and she said that my kids were well behaved (score) and we can all go.
the lecture, which was 1.5 HOURS long, and the girls SAT through it! was about animals that are no longer in out area, or extinct.
it was prob the most interesting lecture ive listened too. it was SO informative. the guy who lead the class was full of knowledge and i believe he has a native heritage and was able to talk in depth about the local widllife/history/trapping and hunting. he also had his own personal stash of items that he brought in for us to hold and look at
from a walrus tusk, to a wolf/coyote pelt, a wolverine hide to a moose fur. it was really interesting. we talked about animals that have interbred over the years and the projects that the gov't has developed to reintroduce animals that are no longer in the area and how they have failed, to the migration of coyotes to the island and nwfland etc...
holding a wolfe hide
then we hit up the interpenetration center. i could have spent more time reading everything. so. well. done!
this is an actual size MOSQUITO!!!!
around lunch time aralee and i took the kids to kellys beach but before we got there i took pics...
