the good and the not so good

not so good='s teaching nate how to gamble at an early age!

good news?
not just good news but outrageously! fantastic! redic! wonderful! life changing! transforming! and all over fab-o-u-lis!
as i dried nate off after his bath yesterday, he said "mommy, i want to pray and ask jesus to come into my heart"
then he dropped to his knees, bowed his head, folded his hands, closed his eyes and said "dear jesus, will you come into my heart please? i love you"
then he said " my spirit is connected to jesus's spirit and now i can hear him for me"
i yelled for chris to come up and nate told him the same thing
for weeks now we have talked to nate about asking jesus to come into his heart. he wanted to but he did not want to pray alone, we told him that asking jesus to come in is a big thing, a decision, a choice that he and only he can make for himself, that he would have to pray, not us, we would help him but he would have to do it
the following may offend ppl. sorry about that. (not) it's my OWN personal opinion and you can stop reading if you like, so if i tick you off, well then get on over it. i warned you
working in kids ministry for yrs, it's a HUGE pet peeve of mine to tell kids from BIRTH that "jesus is in their hearts" no he's NOT! it's NOT biblical. you have to know, understand what you are doing and you have to ASK him to come in.
we are raising/raised nate telling him that yes, jesus is always with him and that yes, jesus loves him and yes, he is a child of god BUT there is a difference between head knowing god and heart knowing god
i believe that a child can understand, at their level who god is. as they grow in wisdom and knowledge the simple concepts of Christianity also grow and mature
nate told me today that jesus is in his heart now and that he will never, ever leave him and that nate's spirit is now "attached" to his and now he can hear jesus.
at night, i pray over him (not every night, some nights i was too tired or rushed) but for the most part i have always prayed this simple prayer. that god will speak to nate's heart, that his eyes will see god's plans, his ears will hear his voice, his feet will go where god tells hims to, his mind will think god thoughts, words of wisdom, obedience, joy and knowledge will flow out
i have never nor will i ever do a "good night, sleep tight, jesus loves you lalalala"
i am SO excited that nate did it! and he knows what he did. he did it on his own!
yeah for nate. today is the first "day" of the rest of his life. i pray that he will grow past my own spiritual maturity by the time he's 10!
*disclaimer. i am SO not even close to the spiritual place i want to be, i am NOT a perfect christian but i am working towards it ;)
haha

Way to go Mommy, well said.

My boy Nater can easy understand what he has done because he doesn't have to deal with all the adult issues, like doubt and unbelief.

I just happened to think that our Nathaniel is well beyond his years in understanding.

Mel, I'm so excited for you, and for Nate. I think it's so awesome what you teach Nate. Katie still ask sometimes where Jesus is and I tell her that he's in Mommy and Daddy's heart, and that he can be in her heart too. So she lifts her shirt to check and asks if he can come play with her. Understanding not quite there yet ;). SO proud of Nate. Give him a big hug from us.
Love, Ursi

oh wow, that is so great. I have wondered at what age this understanding could come, as Quinn is so not there yet. Quinn is a powerful boy of prayer, but will often pray a prayer with pure clarity for a sick friend, and the next night pray for more yummy cookies and juice ;)
Yaaahhh Natey!

c-nate also does the same thing, we would have a serious talk and he will say something profound and the next thing he says is "can we go to tim's to get a tim bit for me?" haha love them where they are at. i just let nate take his time and come to me, i honestly was NOT expecting it this soon!

remind me to share with you the amazing idea i just had for quinn and praying!
