school round up!

its been awhile, i thought i'd do a quick round up on how we do things....above, nate's school cart. his daily books are in the top.  flash cards and games are in the middle and bottom is art....which we don't do anymore. nate just doesn't like it, so i skip it!

im still doing the wkly report. i LOVE this.  it enables nate to work independently as much as he can. altho, we don't start book/school time until the girls are napping
i read the science text to him then write down his assignment in his book and he works on it alone
because he really does not like drawing, i print pics off the computer for him.
he finished up his math back in april. after a few wks of review, i wanted to make sure he knew and grasped the math concepts before we moved on.  i bought him his new book and we started this week on it. i was nervous about it, then i read the teacher's guide and literally said "why didn't someone teach me this???"  i, for the first time, got how and why multiplying works!  not just memorizing the answers but i GET how you do it!  nate picked up on it too and did more pages that i asked him to do!
i bought a set of history books from a friend to use for next year. i decided to start now, cause it just looked fun!  nate picked vikings!  we read the book together, then i make up assignment for him to do...mostly print outs and what not...i have him put it in a .10 book.  voila. curriculum! ha  the books are fun, simple to read and i can add my own stuff to it.  nate really likes it
reading is still world book childcraft. i think he has 1 more left then he has read them all!  i assign him a few pages each day
writing. curric i picked up used, photocopied in a binder.  its not that great...so im going to keep my eyes open for something easier for him
review, a daily comprehension sheets for him to work on, again i photocopy and put it in a binder for him
we start the day off with a quick devotion/story, this is the book we are reading from currently
and that's about it.  it takes him about 2 hrs to do all him work, we stop for breaks to jump on the trampoline and talk.  he is usually done when the kids get home from school and he's gone for the rest of the day

i plan on adding a poetry unit study next week, but over all i think he is doing well and we have a good coverage of all subjects....i think.....who knows? ha

and with that, im off. a smelly bum awaits me!
