sahmness!

someone asked me the most interesting question "what are the expectations of a stay at home mom"
good question
funny bec chris and i have never sat down and talked about it, never decided upon who's jobs are who's and who does what. we just kinda fell into it i guess
i think time changes the duties, seasons too but for us and our family, me staying at home is best for us

i've always wanted to stay home, chris desired his wife to stay home so our foundational values are the same on this page

with everything in life there are the good and the bad
for us the bad would be learning (notice i said learning!!!) to live on one income, the hard part with that is not looking at what i don't and won't have but to look at what i have.  sure, i won't lie! i would love the extras that another income would bring us!  but in all honestly i would not change the choice for me to stay home for anything!

one HUGE perk to bring a sahm is getting things done around the house so we are free most evenings and weekends to do what we want to do...spend time together as a family!

but the question was asked, what jobs do i do?  here is a general run down on what i do!
-laundry (all of it)
-cleaning the house
-which includes all 4 bathrooms, all bedrooms, all living rooms, kitchen etc...(chris does chip in on wkends if it needs help)
-cooking and packing lunches
- errand running during the day, for us, for chris, what ever
-groceries (chris is banned from grocery stores....i send him him for milk=3.00 he comes out with a cart full= 100!)
-household up keep
-taking care of nate, and that is whole other job!  play dates, preschool, m2m, dentist, dr's etc...
-bathing and putting naters to bed at night (because i LOVE putting him to bed)
-mowing the lawn, when i not preggers!
-vacuuming and moping the floors...at least once a week, preferably 2 times
-cleaning, dusting, organising, putting toys away-that never ends!
-mail and communications with ppl
-coming up with fun things to do!
-making chris have fun and enjoy life :)
-taking on odd jobs (e.g garage sale prep, i did most of it but chris set it up)

chris's jobs
-working!  and bringing home the money!
-this is NOT an issue for me.  yes, chris makes the money, yes i don't bring in an income BUT we are partners, what he brings home is OURS. there is no separate accounts. (except for my couch account ha) there is NO "i make the money" talk in this house.

it's like i taught nate from a young age to answer the question...what does your daddy do? nate says "daddy works to make the money for mommy to spend" that's right!  he makes it! i spend it! ha!

-finances!  he does a smashing job with this!
-fixing things! even if they are not broken sigh
-keeps the cars on the road (and puts gas in mine on cold and rainy days)
-yard maintenance, tree planting etc...
-taking on extra jobs to help with the finances. BUT i however parent nate while he's gone. so he maybe doing the work, i am also working...when he gets a job i get my share too (i am saving for a sectional couch, he is saving for another tool...ha!)

now that home school is starting up, we are not sure how it's all gonna play but most likely it's going to be me doing the day in and day out teaching and chris will be helping when he's home. chris will home school with me

i think the biggest blessing is this...even when chris is not home, he's got my back and i have his support. chris is only a call away and will come home if needed

i also happen to love being at home. i love doing laundry ESP putting it all away, nice and neat! i love baking! but hate cooking, i love cleaning and making things smell nice and sparkly, i love re-arranging and making things look nice, i love reading books and hanging with nate, i hate unloading the dishwasher, i love washing mirrors, moping the floors (they are so clean after!)  but most of all i love being at sahm!  it's not for everyone but it works for us

there is good and bad but i think it over all balances out

chris has never come home from work and ask me "what did you do all day?" or "you need to do this" he knows i would slap him silly. ha.  i know he knows i work, just sometimes is not around to actually see it...

and that's ramble about some of the things i do!!!
if you are a stay at home mom what do you do?
better yet, if you work how do you split up the house stuff?

When you now put to each WORK you do a professional name to it..Woow what a skiled lady you are! Only the money end of the month is missing. I also think there is one big ,the biggest point you not strong enough put in to the public : You as the Mom support enhance, comfort, teach ,know all about your child . See the connection of good and bad days in your childs life , you would not know if some one other then you lived the entire whole day with your child .As a stay at home mom allthough that can be extremly looooooooooong days!!! I am so thankful that you do what you do Melanie. I also feel sorry for all the kids and moms who will not or can and not do stay at home . May be the question has to be chequet closely if the earned moey is realy so much more at the end of the month. But like you said, everyone has and does decide for their specific situation and possebilitys. To do the best you can, will be blessed . So may God bless you all moms out there who rise the next generation.
