eliana rhe!

thought i would take a min or 2 or 40....to try and remember this perfect miracle's birth story before my brain is fogged over (well it is already ...ha) with sleep deprivation....

Short version
Eliana Rhe Eigenheer joined us on july 18 at 10:06 am weighting a dainty but mighty 6 pds 12 oz’s, she measured longer than her brother at 19 inches. We were sent home after 4 days to start our lives as a family of 4!

Eliana- “ellie-anna” is Hebrew for “my god has answered me”

Rhe comes from the word rhema “spoken word of god”

Long, detailed and ever so much more fun version….written esp for the eig’s who love lavished details, charts and information
Wed morning, after spending the night in tears. Ha. I was shocked and overwhelmed by the emotions that hit me when I tucked nate into bed, I was feeling everything all at once and crying over the changes and adjustments to come. I decided to be honest and send a friend an email sharing with her how I was feeling, she responded that she also cried before each of her kids were born and what I was feeling was nothing but normal. Then she said “remember you have to go through this to get to the other side” meaning, facing my fears of child birth, reliving past memories of nate’s birth and ben’s loss. Ever have someone say exactly what you needed to hear? Those were the words I needed! I went to bed and I was able to sleep. chris and I prayed together believing that our birth story would be nothing but a peaceful calm delight

Wed am. I was greeted at the door with a timmy’s from my parents and I decided to break the fast and drink it. Ha. And I enjoyed every last sip of it. Chris and my sister came to the hospital with me.  i was all over the place with emotions and remembering thoughts of the past.  i just keep focused "gotta get through this to get to the other side"

We got to the hospital, I registered and registered some more. Ha. Then I was sent to the prep room where chris joined me. I was stripped down and even lost my new pedi! Chris had to remove the polish from my sparkly toes. perfect excuse to get a new one! righh?! haha The nurse, who was so nice and gentle prepped me, put my iv in, then my catheter, which hurts like a mo! As she was finishing up my iv line I almost passed out! Mix of nerves, hormones, hot room and lying on my back flat. But I fought it and didn’t! the nurse got a call from the o.r. saying they were ready for me! I was scheduled for the section at 10:15, it was 9:30 so I got to go in early!  whooo hooo

I was wheeled in the o.r. after a quick good bye hug from my sister who had to wait in the waiting room (boo!) and a kiss from chris who wasn’t allowed in the o.r. until I was ready. I met my anesthesiologist who was ummm lacking manners, politeness and well was just rude! he ended up putting 4 iv’s in! when only 1 was needed and 3 more in my arms before he got one going (yes, he left them ALL in during the surgery!) then it was time for the spinal. I got into the position, sitting side ways on the operating table, bent over a pillow, elbows on the knees, feet on a stool with a nurse to push against so i can arch my back. very difficult when you have a baby gut!  then i spent the next 15 mins in agony as he tried to get the needle in. chris took a video if this, no worries I won’t show it, but trust me it hurt! Finally! I felt my butt and legs get warm and before I could put my legs on the table they were numb. The 2 nurses helped me lay down and my gyno came over to say hello. We had a chat, chris joined us and when I was ready she began the procedure

I felt pressure, movement and tried not to be scared. I was thou, how could you not be? they are cutting your body open and you are awake AND you can hear them talking! (they all spoke in english! very nice of the dr to do!) . After the blue cloth went up I was laying there feeling very scared. i remembered my friend's words “ you have to go thought this to get to the other side” I said it over and over until I felt the peace of god overtake the fear

Chris spent most of the time video taping and taking pic’s of the procedure. I wanted him to! I haven’t seen them all yet but one day I will! I thought it was rather silly for chris to stay with me and not see anything instead of standing up and watching everything for me! And report to me what was going on!  there are many pics and video's if anyone wants to watch them...hahaha....quite interesting actually. anyways. back to the story

I heard chris say “mel, they opened your uterus up, oh there she is….” Then I heard the loudest cry! I remember asking chris with tears “how is she, is she ok? Does she have all her fingers and toes? Does she have hair?.......” I was asking the questions faster than he could answer them

Chris then asked if he could leave me to cut the cord. I said yes! go see her!  and make sure she's ok.  i knew from nate's birth that they cut the cord, then take the baby to clean them up, wrap them up and quickly show the mom before they take the baby to the nursery to be checked out...with nate i saw him for about 2 mins before he was taken away. i remember laying on the table feeling so helpless when all i wanted was my baby!  so i told chris to go with her, not to let anyone other than him hold her and bring her to me when he could. with nate is was about 45 mins before i saw him.

I felt kinda helpless, I couldn’t move and I knew I would be on the o.r. table for at least another 30 mins while they sewed me back up. I wanted to see and hold my baby SO bad!

I was looking up at the ceiling when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. Chris’s arms. Then I heard chris whisper “mel, would you like to see her?” I cried and said yes!!!

Then I felt my minutes-old daughter being placed on my chest. I felt the nurses help get my arms out from the iv tubes. Little miss eliana was placed on my left chest. I felt her, smelt her and bawled with the powerful feeling of connecting to my baby. something i never had with nate.

I was overwhelmed and still am with words to describe what I’ve only read about and heard about from others as I watched my daughter lift her head, smell for me and move her body across my chest to my right side. Where she started to root

A nurse quietly came to my right side and softly asked if I wanted to nurse. i noticed that the o.r. was quiet, that my dr was talking very quietly to the others...Tears were literally pouring down my face as I got to experience the natural bond of a nursing baby moments out of my womb...i have heard about the "new cesarean section" which is being experimented with in the states. i never dreamed that my hospital would do this for me. i later found out that they have not officially started doing this and i was one of the firsts...

I was there on the operating table, nursing my daughter. feeling nothing but calm, peace and love
After I was cleaned up I was sent to my recovery room. Ellie was taken to the nursery to be weighted and cleaned up. On the way out the door I said to chris “get my sister! Let her hold my daughter!”  i felt free to share her with everyone because i got to have her first! i got to experience what others have had for yrs and i wanted my sister to hold her niece moments after her birth
Chris was gone for a few min, while i was in recovery with my nurses who were so kind and gentle to me.  they spoke so softly and i was overwhelmed with the quiet peace in the room.  i closed my eyes, thanked god for my baby and cried silent tears of a feeling i haven't felt in so long, like rain after a dry time. i knew everything would be ok, that i am on a new road now, the past is gone and new things are ahead. he's (my god) doing a new, new thing.  i will praise him in the hard times and i will praise him in the joy.

when chris came back ellie was placed back on my chest for more skin to skin and nursing! I spent the next 2 hours alone in this quiet, peaceful room with only chris and my nurse. nursing, crying and loving this new thing, i call it my "recovery vacation" sheer calm delight
After the 2 hrs were over and i was ready to be brought to my room, I was told there was NO private rooms! Sob sob. I had to share a room with another girl. As we passed the ONLY private room with a bathroom (the same one we had stayed at for 6 days when Nathaniel was born), I said “ that room is mine, I claim it. I am NOT staying in a ward!”

I got to my room and met my roommate. Sigh. Yeah. She was nice and loud and so was her family. Ha.  i really wanted a new room the peace and quiet was gone

My family then came in to visit, nate was first in line to see his sister. I have been asked a lot about how nate is doing and how he reacted to his sister, I can not begin to explain how much he LOVES his sister. He is so taken with her and is the best helper ever. He takes his role as a big brother VERY seriously. I no longer have worries about him. he thinks she is the cutest thing and is bursting with love. spider man web shooter or not. he loves his sister
Around 5 I was told that there was a change in the plans!  that a room had opened up for me. and Get this! that room just happened to be the only private one with a private bathroom! I was SOOOOOO happy to move there!  i was settled into my new room around 8...after i had my first walk and getting out of bed

we settled into the room and got ready to spend the next 4 LONG days there. sigh.  we had a good post recovery. some up and downs but NOTHING close to what we went through with nate. i got very little sleep, kinda hard when the nurses come in every hour!  i know it's their job but man, i get tired!
Now the sappy stuff…

This girl has changed my life. I am so in love with her it breaks my heart. and get this! I love and adore nursing. Me! I love it! The bond we share, the closeness I feel and the peace I have has been life changing. i am not sure if it was the skin on skin right after birth or that she's a natural nurser but breast feeding has been way easy. i love it. i don't mind the constant feeds and little sleep. its worth it. they are so small for such a small time, i am loving it

i spend my days locked away in my own little world, eliana is a snuggler and loves being close to me, the opposite of nate, which is so nice. i love having this time to just be with her, to discover her to just enjoy.  i am on a self imposed babymoon and love every bit of it!

God knew I needed this little girl and sent her to me, perfect, whole and complete
She has something so special about her, a calmness peace and delight. My miracle, my much wanted gift from god.

Yes, it was worth it

God is faithful. always

*gazillions of pics are to follow....at some time...me with a new camera is very dangerous! 2 comments

Melanie's on a "baby moon" right now but is very aware that she hasn't updated her blog in a while. She hopes everyone understands and said that she'll do a post as soon as she can but for now she's quote: "otherwise occupied"

:)

There are two little video clips I uploaded just to satisfy the craving of those baby crazy people out there. I hope you enjoy:

practice makes perfect!

i found nate in the car yesterday, practicing taking care of his sister. he told me that it's his job to make sure she's ok while i am driving, he will watch her, talk to her and give her toys to play with. i know he will be a great big brother to her

i am in awe that 5 yrs ago, we brought our little baby nate home in this car seat.  man, time does go by fast

i am so thankful to god for bringing us another child.  i am not ready to say good bye to these challenging, tiring, teaching, but full of love, kisses, hugs, smiles, problem fixing by just snuggling, tiny toes, teeny finger prints all over my walls and windows, memory making growing early years

he gives the childless (barren) woman a family, making her a happy mother. ps 113:9

last saturday as a fam of 3!

warning! lots of pics!  i got my 'pushing present' yesterday and practiced today. ha.  chris bought me a sweet new camera!  anyways. i love it!  so fast, much better quality and ubber easy to use. love it!  nate dressed himself last night, can't you tell. i told him it didn't match and he said "mom, there is green here (pointing to the top) and green here (pointing to the bottom) can't argue, he's just like his dad. haha.

yesterday, chris took nate on some job sites while i stayed home and cleaned.  nate got his first bee sting!  see his puffy eye? he handles it like a champ and went back to work.  so proud of him

nate funny- we had company last night.  nate said good night and went to bed.  with it was time for our friends to leave, the gal couldn't find her shoe!  one shoe was missing!  i searched everywhere for it. i knew nate took it so i tired with no luck to wake him up.  he would not budge!  so we said good bye with promises of bringing the shoe by today. so, around 1 nate woke up to a nightmare i went in and asked him where the shoe was and why he took it. 1/2 asleep he said "it's in the play room. i took it because i wanted her to come up and talk to me before she leaves'
makes perfect sense! ha
we had nate bring her shoe back today and say he was sorry.haha!

today! our LAST EVER family day of 3!
we spent the am garage sailing, we found nothing really. then the last stop i scored!!! i table full of CHEAP HOMESCHOOLING BOOKS!  i got about 6 books for 3 bucks!!!!  too bad i am not sure of what i will use for gr 3-4 or i could  have really cleaned up!
then we came home so i could have an almost 2 hr nap!  chris took nate back out on a few jobs. then home to nate's big surprise. swimming at the out door pool!
he was SO happy
then we got there and realised that the car show was on, it was WAY to busy. so we came home to re-group and teach nate that even though your plans don't work out the way you want we can still have fun with new plans. c and i quickly came up with a game plan
and off we went! to the board walk (with my bogo coupons!)
ball pit-play ground!
bumper boats!
my 2 men!
i could not go on them :( not good for the pre-labour potential. har har
nate driving!
go karting!  all buckled up!
check out nate's very serious focused face
off they went
nate drove
then to cap the day off we went to mcdonalds. it was good. can't believe i said that!
then home for bath and a family movie in our bed. snuggling with our oldest boy on our last saturday as a family of 3

4 more day's ya'all!

*nate handled the change of plans GREAT. he's come along way in this area.  i think he had more fun with the back up plan.  i told him maybe we can sneak a trip to the pool with the family on mon when they come!  nate is VERY excited about everyone coming, he tells everyone...not that his sister is coming but his grandparents are...and they make him the best breakfast that i never make him (bacon, eggs, toast with loads of jam)  funny kid

emotions! hormones! oh my!

everyone knows or heard about the female hormones ESP while preggers they are often used as an excuse to vomit over those around you or to behave in an undignified manner.  ooops? did i just say that out loud?

last yr we went  to colorado, sent by c's parents for a week of marriage council, all of us siblings were given the same gift.  c and i choose to go last june bec we were at a good place in our marriage, actually it was prob the second best place we've ever been at.  and i think that's a great time to go!

it's been over a yr now and i still use the tools that john taught us.  one day i should do a whole blog on how it changed me forever

one HUGE learning tool john gave us was this simple concept - chris is my partner, his personality is strong, solid and rarely, if ever changes. i could use some of that.  why? because i am a tool. ha.  i am an emotional, hormonal, up and down, crazy all over the place kinda girl. i have no rhyme or reason and that's the way god made me to be! there is NOTHING wrong with emotions. actually, according to john chris could use a bucket more. haha.

point is.  i am emotional=good not bad (as i was told and believed)
chris is solid=good
if i am connected to chris who is solid, and we are emotionally attached. i will be solid. when i am emotional i can guarantee that we are not connected.  when we are, i am balanced out

chris and i balance each other when we are connected. and honest with each other. really honest. like brutally honest!

so.  the last yr this simple concept has helped me SO much. i have stayed more balanced and not responded out of emotion.  chris has balanced his work load to keep me always first. e.g i can call him at anytime and he will stop what he's doing to chat, hang out or come to bed with me (i go to bed early chris tends to stay up late)

BUT when got preggers i was freaked out. now i have THOSE hormones to deal with too!

the last 2 weeks have been a daily struggle. NOT to have an emotional high or to feel better but to BE balanced. i am facing major change, fear, insecurity, emotions, tiredness etc...

i did a lot of soul searching, which is not my style!  i don't like to figure things out! chris does. but i did anyways and i am shocked at what i've discovered! and i thought i'd share them cause, well, i have nothing to hide!

 1. god is mighty. i am not!

god is in the middle of me, he's mighty. i'm not zep 3:17

-emotional ppl should not hang with emotional ppl. instead find those who are solid, chris-like and hang with them.  who you are with influences you!  surround yourself with what you want
i am determined to be at a place that is not emotional or controlled by fear and torment.  hang with those who's maturity and stability you want

2. calm delight!

live a life of calm delight=not responding nutty! stay balanced. don't let the yummy lunch i had today to determine the rest of the day (i am being silly here!)  don't go around bragging to everyone about this amazing lunch, talk about it but don't make it the focus of who you are because what would happen if you ate, ran around and bragged then got home and got food poisoning, will that change everything?  will i still be happy?  will i still be loved? or will i slip into depression, guilt, despair...
calm delight is living daily, solid

* a real example would be this baby.  is she the source of my happiness?  bec when things get rough, and they will, that will change my outlook which is really being emotionally led.  a baby is not the source of my joy.  calm delight is

chris is the perfect example of this.  cause he is solid. someday i wanna smack him to make him smile and be happy! esp when something good happened. i often think. why isn't he showing his happiness? why is he not yelling or crying with joy?  where is his delight?  hello?

then i realized that he is happy, he's the same as he was yesterday and tomorrow.  he is happy but he does not even put the emotion of joy into a place that can change his solidness. a baby does not change his world

*and yes, chris has really changed in this area. he is really starting to open up (slow and steady that is) and celebrate with me. not the way i do but in his own way

3. the stream and the storm

chris is like this stream of water always flowing in the same direction, never changes always moving...slow most of the time. ha
i am like a storm, blowing in and out and leaving a mess behind me

ps 107:29 "he calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves."  what a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into the harbour"

there is nothing wrong with showing joy and happiness but there is something wrong living a life of high highs and low lows that control you

4. honesty is the best policy!!!

this is the big biggy!  there is power in being honest and telling the truth! esp about how i feel. i trust c and i use him as my talking board. i am honest with him ESP this pregnancy about everything i feel.  every hormonal emotion!  i talk and share. i call him daily, chris asks daily.  i tell him i am sad, happy, scared, depressed, discouraged. i say the words.  we search it out. lots of times i just say "i am hormonal today, please just let me be quiet" or "i need a nap when you get home, i am really tired" or " i am feeling overwhelmed, can you help with something"  this helps us SO much!

when we bring how we really feel out into the open, there is nothing to hide behind.  jn 8:32-the truth will make us free!

and SO many times i realized that nothing is actually wrong, i am just hormonal.  and i spend the night resting and going to bed early. guilt-free because i was open and honest with chris about how i felt!  truly liberating!

when my body is tired, my mind messes with me!  so i try to stop those thoughts with rest, restoration and recuperate!  being physically, mentally and spiritually tired is not the time to fix something! rest and get at it later!

5. the hormone test!!

there are seasons that i go thought that i find myself more emotional than normal, e.g pregnancy!  this is ok!  during this time i found myself way more sensitive, more easy to be hurt, more influenced my hormones...waking up and crying for no reason...haha....being set off by the silliest, little thing....

i've found the easiest way to respond to these emotions is to talk, then simply tell god that i am off my rocker today and i don't trust myself emotionally and that he should lead me around like a blind person cause i am not sure whats real and what's not...then i share it with chris who then helps me determine feelings from fact.  some days i even tell nate that i am really tired today and to be nice to me.  and lots of times i go to nate and share with him that i am sorry for acting a certain way, or said something i should not have.  my kids need to hear that i am sorry and i make mistakes!

my emotions won't go away, it's my job to take responsibility to channel them in the right direction, not allowing them to control me. staying balanced. or trying to!

prov 1:5
the wise will hear and increase learning and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain sound council

have i acted with calm delight this entire pregnancy? not even.  have i changed? yes i have. am i proud of the way i've handled situations? most of the time.  as i am nearing the end, i am glad i've learnt and grown. i look forward to the future not because of what's going to happen but because i know - good and bad - god is there. he's faithful. he's loyal and he's right beside me leading me along the right path! 1 comments

last prenatal!

nate helped by pressing the button for me on the fetal movement test

we had out LAST prenatal appointy today. i was a bit nervous bec of last week and the bad report.  i was more scared when i hit the FULL waiting room. i had a pedi booked for 5 and i was praying we would get out sooner than later...anyways!

we had the best check up ever. seriously. for real.  bec i see the gyno, i don't wait as long as the rest. after 15 mins in the waiting room i was in the assessment room.  they do the rest of the testing there so i don't have to move around

my blood presser went DOWN!
my protein levels went DOWN!
my weight went DOWN!

i had another protein test and will get the result tomorrow but i am expecting everything to be perfect.  i met with the gyno, after 15 min wait!  and went over the details for next week. tues is routine testing, wed is baby day!  the time did change, i am booked for the or for 10:15, instead of 6. sweet! i can sleep in a bit. ha.  she went over all the minor details and reminded chris to bring his camera. i want loads of pics and a video. i wanna see my innards. ha

we left the hospital feeling relaxed, satisfied and excited. which is nice for a change

the count down is on.....6 more days!

-i was done my appointy an HOUR before my pedi, we were in and out in an hr and 1/2. seriously, i have the best luck at the clinic! 3 comments
